Matt Rosner
CARTE BLANCHE MEUPE RECORDS

Local minimal sound artist M. Rosner performs new material written in collaboration with multi-instrumentalist Greg Taw (The Ghost of 29 Megacycles). His album ’Morning Tones’ for New York’s Apestaartje label has been well received the world over.

"Rösner has a gift in that he can blend pure digital tone structures with simple plucked acoustic guitar, field recordings and washed out percussion. ’Morning Tones’ is a meeting of the digital and the acoustic, and the exchange is tense, gripping and somewhat awkward. The two different worlds are initially at odds and the sound at first can jar, but a few minutes in and you’ll wonder why they were ever split - they just make perfect sense together." - BOOMKAT

Craig Mcelhinney
CARTE BLANCHE MEUPE RECORDS

Glacial drone loops meet meandering doom improvisations; armed with guitar Craig McElhinney performs the sound of bringing the mountains to the sea. Since parting ways with Metal heavyweights Eleventh He Reaches London, McElhinney has been performing solo guitar improvisation extensively in Perth since 2008. His debut album You and Me are Young and Brutal reminds us of the arpeggiated noodlings of Storm and Stress blended with the pulverising downtuned soundscapes created by the likes of SUNN 0))) and Om.

Chris Cobilis
CARTE BLANCHE MEUPE RECORDS

Chris Cobilis began performing improvisation in 1997 with guitar, samplers, tapes, radios and just about anything else he could find that made sound. As a solo performer he has played around the world and has performed alongside the likes of Ikue Mori, Jon Rose, Kenneth Goldsmith, Awesome Color and Damo Suzuki.

Matt Larsen
Solo guitar

Matt Larsen is an exciting singer/songwriter from Perth, Western Australia. His ability to create hook laden melodies and foot tapping rhythms combined with meaningful lyrics has delighted audiences of all ages. As a solo acoustic act Matt’s live performances are full of energy and passion with a maturity beyond his years. His style is best described as guitar driven indie pop/rock. Whilst an exceptional guitarist and singer, Matt is a multi-instrumentalist and has performed all the instruments on most of his recordings to date. The Lazy Railway
Country / Blues

"There’s a chance the members of The Lazy Railway had a hard time fitting in at school, as while most kids their age were downloading Fall Out Boy and posing for their MySpace pics, these guys would have been listening to old records that preceded their grandparents. The Lazy Railway are straight-up bluegrass, complete with Diablo banjo, acoustic bass, snare, viola, and washboard. It’s a wonderful sight to see people probably still in their teens playing this music, and ever looking the part. The beautifully ironic thing is that, while other musicians their age are striving to play what is popular now, if they stick to their guns The Lazy Railway are sure to outlast most other bands. Bar a little more experience, a couple of stints in jail, 20 years of alcohol abuse and a little bit of facial hair(violinist excepted), this is the real deal. Today’s music needs The Lazy Railway."

BryteMC
Oz Hip Hop

Bryte MC, formally known as Brian Lloyd is a young Indigenous Oz Hip Hop Lyricist/Performer, originally from Brisbane. He discovered his passion for Hip Hop music as a mural graffiti artist during early high school and participating in break dance classes and MC battles. Soon after, he and other talented rhymer/writers joined forces to form ‘Creatures of Habit’, an alliance that has proved to be more than capable of producing an impressive and independent sound. Creatures of Habit began making their mark in Brisbane and Gold Coast pubs and clubs such as The Alley Bar, The Shark Bar and The Jubilee Hotel.

After a successful start in Brisbane, Bryte MC finally made the move to Perth in 2007. Determined to learn more about music, he enrolled in the Music Industry course at ABMUSIC College. From there, his dream of becoming a more effective musician became a reality as he began to break into the Perth music scene. So far, Bryte MC has performed at such events as ‘Hyperfest’, ‘The Northbridge Festival’, ‘Good Vibrations 2008 and 2009’ and ‘The Australia Day Festival 2009’. Not to mention ‘The Too Solid Awards 2009’ in which he won Urban Album of the Year for his debut LP titled ‘Full Stop’.

Bryte MC’s music is all original and when performed live, it detonates with an immense energy. His influences range from such 80’s – 90’s artists as ‘Tribe Called Quest’ and ‘Tupac Shakur’, to the more recent bands such as ‘Hilltop Hoods’ and ‘Brother Ali’. Brian currently collaborates with Candice Lorrae, a soulful blues/jazz singer, as a result forming a unique vibe of mellow to up tempo Hip Hop. Bryte Emcee looks forward to releasing his debut album ‘Full Stop’ in December 2009.

7weapons
Solo folk

As a 7 year old Seven Weapons would sit atop a tall ladder overlooking the roof top of her family home and a sweeping view of the Darling Ranges. She liked to sing to the wind and the sky and watch them carry the sound away. Later that year she would discover the piano and soothe herself with the constant rhythm of sonata form. The piano would become a treasured best friend and they would have many long conversations together especially when no-one else was home. Seven Weapons grew and grew and grew up, up, up. She tried many things and went many places but she never forgot the song upon the wind or her dear piano friend and every now and then when she really listened hard she would hear a little voice inside whisper ’I want to sing and play guitar’.

Sue Cunningham
Solo folk

Sue Cunningham is a passionate singer songwriter regularly performing in the South West of WA and around Perth. Originating from the Blue Mountains, Sue now calls Denmark (WA) home.

Sue describes her sound as contemporary folk with a indie roots edge. Soulful, earthy, powerful vocals accompany her honest, pared down lyrics that drive a straight line to the heart of all that makes us human. Supported by acoustic guitar, she slips effortlessly from delicate finger picking into stretches of chunky, hard-edged guitar rhythms.

Trio Alegra
Eastern Europe Jazz

Trio Alegra, based in Fremantle plays an ethnic whirlwind of music from along the gypsy trail and beyond: an eclectic mix of East European influences (Gypsy, Klezmer, Balkan, Greek, Russian) mixed with a good dose of Latin tangos, French waltzes, and Italian taratellas. On the nostalgic edge of the Mediterranean, at times the music is reminiscent of a Fellini film, at others, a evening in a French cabaret, and at others, a small band of street gypsies, one can only guess where from. Virtuosic, classic, folk-pop, and jazzy all at the same time, they present an ever changing mix of hot off the press original arrangements.

Sugartooth
Power Pop

It seems that guitar power pop is still live and well in Perth WA. Playing a healthy part in that is Toni Italiano, one time bass player with Perth power pop band legends, DM3.

In the years following DM3, Toni continued to concentrate on recording albums for local original bands, while at the same time creating and gathering a collection of his own pop tunes.

In late 2005, he armed himself with seasoned local musicians, drummer Leigh Radis and bass player Anthony Pittaway, to form power pop band ‘SugarTooth’.

Toni had previously met both Leigh and Anthony individually via sessions at his recording studio and had kept in contact with Anthony through the years.

Through a chance meeting with Leigh at a ‘Motley Crue’ outdoor concert in 2005, Toni asked Leigh to join him in an informal jam session of his songs. Toni then contacted Anthony to join in on the session.

Fast forward to 2008 and after playing in various local venues in Perth from the Indi Bar, Hyde Park Hotel, the Swan Basement and the Civic Hotel, the band have put together a self titled four track EP of Toni’s song, which is now available.

DJ Aarom Wilson
Rock DJ

Aarom has broadcast on various radio stations for years, but began presenting at RTRFM with Morning Magazine in 2002. He believes totally in nothing, is interested in just about everything and has a nasty habit of doing dangerous things, often making for ‘unpredictable’ Drivetime listening on Thursdays, which he now presents with Harvey Rae. Being Drum Media’s Members Only Editor is Aarom’s main (full)time cruncher, as well as taking care of some local music affairs at the mag, so music is a passion he loves to share. University/community teaching, obsessive cooking, overzealous dancing and looking after his fuzzball (dog) Maddie largely consume the rest of his hours. Sleep is something he only indulges in occasionally…

My Majestic Star
Expe

My Majestic Star began as a solo recording project from Perth artist Chris Mason - the purpose of which was to experiment with guitars, samplers and keyboards to create music that was naturally allowed to evolve of it’s own volition. With a background in, and love for, shoegaze and post-rock, the result was a melding of fuzzed out ambiance and shimmering, haunting melodies that culminated in the release of the first MMS album "Ideas Are the Answer".

A Beggars Second
Expe rock

Hailing from Perth, ’A Beggars Second’ brings a vibrant, honest perspective emerging from the city’s grass roots acoustic scene.

Currently recording their first album in the warm analog bath of Poonshead Studio, this duo’s debut release is set to soothe. Ben Bowden’s melody driven lyrics and guitar, backed by Mark Degebrodt’s percussive rhythms bring to light a different development with each track. Tales of love, growth, loss and greed sit themselves in catchy melodies that draw the listener in with each passing note.

While A Beggars Second may still be relatively new to the scene, the band members are not. Degebrodtís history starts with heavy outfit Diffusion - a band that has played along side some of Perthís well knowns in the scene, such as Karnivool and Heavy Weight Champ. Bowdenís history is less known to Australia ñ having performed as a solo artist in Norwayís Troubadour festivals with the likes of Scandinavian artists Robert Post and Karin Park to name a few.

DJ Craig Hollywood
Rock Electro

Craig Hollywood, named that way at birth, was always destined to catch something. On this occasion we’ll use the eye as an example. From the darkened recesses of seedy Glasgow venues such as The Arches and The Sub Club, to the thriving Australian dance festival circuit, Hollywood’s roots in techno sounds are forever present. Alongside this, the ability to construct dinged out disco set-ups and tasteful electro constructions; also shows why this Perth DJ is one to look out for.

Craig has also been involved in various initiatives including Minimal X-Posure, Kitty Schmidt, Death Disco, Deuce, RTRFM Looney Choons, RTRFM Trainwreck. As well as this he has appeared at events such as Global Gathering Festival alongside Kraftwerk, Mark Ronson, Sasha, The Orb and also the now infamous ’09 Future Music Festival with Basement Jaxx, N*E*R*D, Richie Hawtin, Grandmaster Flash. Craig’s broad-ranging CV is testament to his varied take on music the world over.
